Aerotec provides several different, yet complementary, types of airborne remote sensing data products suitable for railway GIS database population, facilities inventory, and right-of-way management applications.

Aerotec’s high-resolution vertical/oblique continuous (time-sequenced frames) digital imagery is matched (width) to the swath width of the LIDAR data; and it is captured simultaneously with the LIDAR data capture.
 
1. Continuous vertical imagery is used to produce Aerotec’s ortho-photography product.
2. Continuous oblique imagery is geo-referenced and matches the coverage of the vertical imagery.
3. Both of these types of digital aerial photography can be used in lieu of video to provide high-resolution to identify and capture facilities in the right-of-way for GIS database population.
   
 
Wall Damage
 
The oblique aerial photograph to the immediate right (middle section of the white strip shown) indicates some apparent distortion to the levee wall. Is this a true anomaly? Physical inspection might be called for in this case. Click on the image to view a larger sample. HotLinx Continuous Imagery Association/Geo-reference File
 
Aerotec provides both the continuous vertical and oblique imagery hot-linked from an Excel spreadsheet for easy access and presentation of geo-referencing information. This HotLinx data file can be accessed by the link below. Simply click on a row in the spreadsheet (using either the specific customer-provided facility identifier or location information to access the associated oblique image.

Video
 
Aerotec’s broadcast quality color video (vertical and oblique) is edited (taking out aircraft turning maneuvers and other extraneous aircraft positioning maneuvers) to provide a continuous, uninterrupted video of the entire right-of-way route of interest. GPS positioning of the video can be accomplished and used with appropriate software products such as Aerotec’s PLS-CAD Image/Video Player product for electric power transmission engineering. The video being illustrated below is of the north side of the levee only. Video of the south side of the levee is available.

LIDAR Intensity Imagery

Aerotec’s LIDAR Intensity Imagery is produced directly from the intensity of the LIDAR return signals. Aerotec’s high-density, uniform LIDAR scan pattern facilitates the production of a high-quality pseudo-ortho-photograph suitable for use as a background image for any of several types of mapping/drawing products. The LIDAR intensity image maintains the horizontal accuracy of the LIDAR data itself making it extremely useful for digitizing facilities location information, determining edge of pavement/rail, etc.

EnTech EnSite VII imagery is captured concurrently with other forms of digital imagery in an effort to detect potential (sub-surface) defects inside and/or in the immediate vicinity of the levee structure itself.

Aerotec’s color 3D LIDAR models are produced using a combination of Aerotec’s LIDAR data and digital aerial ortho-photography. The models can be effectively used to assess/resolve clearance issues since an accurate distance can be measured between any two points in the LIDAR model. Additionally, the models serve as very effective visualization tools.
 
 
Drawing/Mapping Products

Aerotec’s airborne digital remote sensing data products can be combined in various ways to produce any of several types of drawing/mapping products. The following drawing/map (AutoCAD and/or Microstation) illustrates the construction of a right-of-way contour map by
 
1. Using the LIDAR data to construct a digital terrain model from which contour lines (constant elevation) are constructed,
2. Using the color high-resolution aerial ortho-photography as a background for identifying various facility and geographic information, and
3. Using the LIDAR intensity image as a background image to support the accurate digitization (location) of facility and/or geographic information.
4. EnTech EnSite VII imagery is employed as an additional background layer of the drawing to depict the location of apparent sub-surface anomalies within the levee structure.
5. Various types of environmental and/or construction hazards (as well as facilities) could be depicted on this type of planimetric map.
